Chip & Crack Repair

A fresh chip is small, clean, and easy to fill. Left alone, it collects dirt and moisture, and every temperature swing works it a little wider. In Jackson Hole that swing is brutal — a warm cabin against a sub-zero windshield, or the blast of a defroster on frozen glass, is exactly the kind of stress that turns a dime-sized chip into a crack across your field of view. A repair done this week is quick and inexpensive. The same damage next month may mean a full replacement.

As a general rule we can repair:

• Chips up to about the size of a quarter
• Cracks up to roughly six inches long
• Star breaks, bullseyes, and combination breaks that have not yet spread to the edge

Damage in the driver's direct line of sight, cracks that reach the edge of the glass, or breaks that have penetrated both layers usually call for replacement instead. If your damage is borderline, we will tell you honestly whether a repair will hold or whether your money is better spent on new glass.

Chip repairs do not need an appointment. Swing by our Martin Lane shop Monday through Friday between 9 AM and 3 PM, and in most cases you will be back on the road in about half an hour. It is a genuinely easy fix — the kind of thing you can knock out on a lunch break before the chip has a chance to become a much bigger project.

Here is the part many drivers do not realize: most comprehensive insurance policies cover windshield repair at little or no cost, because insurers would rather pay for a cheap repair now than a full replacement later.
