ADAS Calibration

ADAS stands for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems — the suite of cameras and sensors that watch the road and step in when you need help. On the vehicles we see every day in the valley, that includes lane-keeping and lane-departure warning, automatic emergency braking, forward-collision alerts, adaptive cruise control, and traffic-sign recognition. These systems make split-second decisions based on exactly where the camera is pointed. Move the camera and don't recalibrate, and the system may misjudge distances or fail to react when it should.

The forward-facing camera looks out through a precise section of your windshield. Removing the old glass and bonding in a new windshield — even a perfect OEM one — repositions that camera relative to the road. Automakers require a recalibration any time the windshield is replaced so the system knows its exact new aim. Skipping it can leave you with a warning light, a disabled safety feature, or worse: a system that thinks it is working but is quietly pointed a few degrees off.

There are two methods, and the right one depends on your make and model:

• Static calibration is done in the shop using manufacturer-specified targets and precise measurements at set distances from the vehicle.
• Dynamic calibration is done by driving the vehicle on the road at set speeds while the system recalibrates itself against real-world lane markings and traffic.

Some vehicles need one, some need the other, and some require both. We identify the correct procedure for your vehicle and verify every affected system before you leave.
